KL Rahul Has Left For Sri Lanka To Join Team India Ahead Of The Super Fours

Asia Cup 2023: BCCI has now officially confirmed that KL Rahul has cleared his fitness tests. The Wicketkeeper batter has left for Sri Lanka to join Team India ahead of the Super-4 match against Pakistan.

KL Rahul has left to join the Men in Blue squad

India keeper-batter KL Rahul has left to join the Men in Blue squad for the remainder of the Asia Cup 2023 tournament on Tuesday, September 5. KL Rahul, who had undergone thigh surgery to correct a hip flexor injury. He had suffered during the IPL 2023. And he had been rehabbing and recovering at the NCA in Bengaluru. He had done well and shared videos of his recovery on social media, of him batting and doing wicketkeeping drills.

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer were given fitness clearance

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer were given fitness clearance for their respective surgeries. And they were named to the Asia Cup 2023 squad. However, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar revealed that Rahul experienced a groin niggle and that he would continue treatment at the NCA. He didn’t fly out to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup. Coach Rahul Dravid confirmed that he would miss the first two Group A games against Pakistan and Nepal as he needs more time to prepare.

If Rahul comes, Kishan will have to be sidelined.

In an encouraging piece of news for Team India, Rahul has recovered from that niggle and has left for Sri Lanka to join Team India ahead of the Super-4 matches. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan, who got a place in the team in Rahul’s absence, played brilliantly in the recent game against Pakistan. However, it is reported that if Rahul comes, Kishan will have to be sidelined.

India will play at least three more matches in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. Looking ahead to the most anticipated Super Fours match of the Asia Cup 2023, India will face their arch-rivals Pakistan on September 10. Next, they play in a three-match ODI series against Australia, following which they will head to the World Cup campaign.

The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled to start on October 5 in India, with England, the defending champions, playing New Zealand in a repeat of the 2019 World Cup final. India’s first game will be on October 8 against five-time winners Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
