Sunil Gavaskar comments on captain Rohit Sharma, Team India lacks all-rounders

Sunil Gavaskar: Former Team India veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has made a comment about captain Rohit Sharma before the Asia Cup 2023 and the World Cup 2023. He said that both these events are very important for Rohit. Actually, the Indian team led by Rohit has to play two big tournaments Asia Cup and ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Asia Cup is going to start from 30th August. While the World Cup will be played from 5 October.

Gavaskar – You are judged by the trophies you win

According to ‘Hindustan Times’, Sunil Gavaskar said, “At the end of the day, you are judged by the number of trophies you win and the number of victories you have. Winning these two tournaments will make him one of India’s greatest captains.” Gavaskar has said that there is a lack of all-rounders in Team India, which was not there in Dhoni’s team. Former cricket has shared its opinion regarding this.

India lacks all-rounders

Regarding the lack of all-rounders, Gavaskar said that “more than anything the luck of the day is very important and if you look at the teams of 1983, 1985, and 2011, they all had top-class all-rounders. You had batsmen who could bowl 7-8-9 overs and bowlers who could bat down the order. This was the biggest plus of those teams. You can also check out MSD’s team. He had Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, and Virender Sehwag all bowl. This was the biggest plus. So any team that has all-rounders in it will maintain its edge”.

Look at our position in the knockout stages where we have lost

Gavaskar further said “You look at England who won the T20 World Cup last year. One can see the all-rounders they have. So all-rounders are the key element. We have immense talent, (but) you need a little bit of luck in the knockout stage. If you look at our situation in the knockout stages where we have lost, almost every time we have had bad luck.

India needs good luck

“In the last World Cup 2019, we had one match, the semi-final vs New Zealand, which stretched till the second day. If it had gone on all day, we would have a different story. Because the conditions were limited the next day New Zealand bowlers could bowl well. So I think you need a little bit of luck on that day. I mean there are four very good teams, so you need luck on that day”.
