Jio Cinema had started offering free streaming of major cricket tournaments on its mobile app. He showed IPL for free.
It got a great response from the public. Asia Cup 2023 will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 30 to September 17.
The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup will be held in India from 5 October to 15 November.
The Hotstar suffered a huge loss:-
Disney+Hotstar’s user base has seen a steady decline. According to Reuters, Disney + Hotstar had the largest user base last year.
However, it started declining in March 2022, resulting in a huge loss of $41.5 million for the company.
The user base fell by about 25 percent between October and July of the same year, putting pressure on the company to find ways to become profitable again.
HBO also broke ties with Disney
One of the primary reasons behind the downfall of Disney+Hotstar is the departure of HBO shows. Popular shows like Game of Thrones, Succession, and the upcoming Harry Potter series, which were earlier streamed on Disney’s OTT platform, moved to JioCinema.
Reliance Jio signed a deal with Warner Bros Discovery to bring popular Hollywood content on its streaming platform, JioCinema. Due to this Disney suffered even more damage.
Disney expects double the audience from IPL:-
Disney+ Hotstar believes that the number of people watching World Cup and Asia Cup cricket matches can reach 50 million.
If indeed this happens, it will exceed the number of people watching the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Mukesh Ambani’s JioCinema platform by 56 percent.

Disney is expected to earn bumper earnings from this. Although Disney has given this facility only for mobile, in such a situation, viewers watching it on laptops and large screens will still have to take a premium plan.
