BBL 2022-23: Adam Zampa and Jason Sangha were named captains

Jason Sangha has been named the captain of Sydney Thunder for the BBL. Adam Zampa will captain the Melbourne Stars in the absence of Glenn Maxwell.

The 23-year-old Union sees as one of the rising leaders in Australian cricket. While Usman Khawaja is considered the frontrunner for the role after his move to Brisbane Heat. He led the Thunder in three matches last season when Khawaja was with the Test team and Chris Green was down with COVID-19. Barring injury or illness, he will be available for the entire season. Which would mean that Warner doesn’t need to play a role.

“It means a lot,” he said. “I’ve been fortunate to play under some tremendous leaders, starting with Shane Watson at Sydney Thunder.

Sangha was the leading run-scorer for the Thunder last season with 445 runs at a strike rate of 132.04.

Adam Zampa to captain Melbourne Stars in Glenn Maxwell’s absence

Adam Zampa will captain the Melbourne Stars in the absence of Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell injured his leg last month. As a white-ball player for Australia, Zampa will be available for the whole of the BBL, unless he earns a surprise call-up to the Test squad for the tour of India.

Zampa has been named as a candidate to captain Australia in ODIs and T20Is. And he is part of the senior leadership group of the national team.

He captained the Stars in one game last season. When the team was hit by Covid. He won against the Adelaide Strikers.

“It’s an honor to lead the Melbourne Stars in Glenn’s absence and I look forward to helping get the best out of this group,” he said. “Our Stars journey won’t be complete without a BBL title and we’re throwing everything into this season to achieve that.
