WBBL 2023: Harmanpreet Kaur the only Indian selected in the Women’s Big Bash League, Deepti, Jemimah, and Yastika did not get a chance.

Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has become the first Indian player to be selecting in the overseas draft in the Women’s Big Bash League.

Apart from Harmanpreet, a total of 18 Indian players including Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma were naming in the inaugural WBBL overseas draft.
However, out of all these players, only the Indian captain has been selected. Kaur was retaining by Melbourne Renegades.
Speaking on the retention of Harmanpreet Kaur, Renegades head coach Simon Helmott said, “I am very pleased that we have found both Harmanpreet and Hayley and I look forward to working together again this year”.
Performed Brilliantly For The Renegades During the 2021-22 Season
Harmanpreet has been in fine form for the Renegades during the 2021-22 season. During this, he scored 406 runs in 12 innings at an average of 58.00 and a strike rate of 130.96, including three half-centuries and a top score of 81 not out.
Head coach Simon Helmot further added “It was a tough decision – do we go with Harmanpreet at pick three, or do we go with Hayley?
Luckily it worked out for us that Harmanpreet was still available in the second round, so we could still have her as a platinum pick”.
With this, Harmanpreet has become the only Indian woman cricketer to be selected in the WBBL overseas draft.
