After making her debut for the Queensland Fire Open women’s cricket team in March this year, the all-rounder has had a huge year of success.
Today, Brisbane Heat announced Lucy as their local replacement player on social media. Lucy’s father, Stephen Hamilton, said the family is extremely proud of everything they have achieved.
“Lucy is very excited,” he said.
“It’s been a big few weeks as we’ve known for a while. Playing in WBBL has always been his dream and it has certainly come a few years earlier than expected.
Stephen said that Lucy’s adaptability and maturity to the game were exceptional when she was competing in the Women’s National Cricket League with the Queensland Fire.
“She works very hard with respect to all her commitments but so far this year she has also represented Queensland Fire in the senior women’s national competition,” he said.
“We are very proud of how he has handled himself during the training and games so far and during the weekend and pre-season tournaments.
“She has adapted to cricket life in the WNCL and with her maturity and adaptability she is confident she can perform and handle herself in games, but also away for a period of six weeks.”
Hamilton’s sporting achievement is a proud moment for those who know him, including his family, coaches, teachers, and students at Shalom College, who have watched his skills develop over the years.
When selected for the Queensland Fire earlier this year, Simon Giles, the school’s sports coordinator, said Lucy had been identified at a young age as a promising athlete in several sports.
“Lucy made several Wide Bay Primary School sports teams. Obviously, cricket being one of them, but she also had a bright future in football and touch football,” he said.
“When Lucy started in Shalom, we knew about her sporting talent and I personally knew the cricketing potential she had to offer.”
Simon said the talented sports star became part of the Wide Bay. And the QLD school cricket representative system and the Wide Bay and QLD club cricket representative route.
He said the Shalom High-Performance Program helped Lucy. With her academic and school life through managing her elite sports workload as well.
“Shalom couldn’t be more proud of what Lucy has achieved at such a young age,” Simon said.
“To be the second youngest debutant for Qld in the WNCL at only 15 years old is a remarkable achievement.
