35-year-old Aaron Finch gave the biggest reason for retiring from ODI cricket

Cairns (Australia), Agency. Australia captain Aaron Finch has said that he will retire from one-day international cricket after the third and final ODI against New Zealand on Sunday. The 35-year-old Finch has been in poor form for some time now. He has averaged just 3.7 runs per innings after scoring 62 runs in ODIs against Sri Lanka in June. He also failed to open an account in three of these innings.

Aaron Finch to continue as Australia captain in T20

According to Cricket Australia, Aaron Finch will remain the captain of Australia in T20. And the team will participate in the T20 World Cup to be held in October-November under his leadership. Finch said, “It has been a wonderful journey with some very good memories attached to it. I was fortunate to be part of a great ODI team. Now is the time to hand over the responsibility to the new captain so that he can prepare the team for the next World Cup. I express my gratitude to all those who helped me in this journey.

There would have been a chance to retire at the Melbourne Cricket Ground

He said, ‘About 12 months from now, the 50-over World Cup is to be played and seeing that, I felt that this is the most opportune time to retire. I could have tried to play another series against England after the T20 World Cup. And would have had a chance to retire at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground. But I have never had the style to focus on my own interests. ‘ After this decision of Aaron Finch, Australia will have to find a new captain before the World Cup to be held in India next year.

Australia’s Test captain Pat Cummins has already indicated that he does not want to lead the ODI side. Australia have already won the series against New Zealand by winning both the matches. Marcus Stoinis will miss this match due to a muscle strain and Nathan Ellis will join the team.
