A Pakistani Fan Who Came For Virat Kohli Said “My Heart Was Broken” When He Didn’t Score A Century

Nothing brings up the India-Pakistan rivalry like a cricket match between the two neighbouring countries. Amidst the cricket fervour, where sentiments often border on jingoism. A video of a Pakistani girl expressing her admiration for Indian player Virat Kohli is going viral.

My Heart Was Broken” When He Didn’t Score A Century

In the video, the unnamed girl says Kohli is her favourite player and she came to the stadium just to see him during the Asia Cup 2023 opener. She was expecting Kohli to make a century during the high-voltage match between the arch-rivals but was left heartbroken after he got out quickly. The fan also shows the Pakistani flag on one side of her cheek and the Indian flag on the other side.

Pakistani fans standing behind her were left unamused by her open admiration for an Indian player. When an older man tries to interrupt her, she says, “Chacha, passion se pyaar karna koi buri baat toh nahi hai (Uncle, it’s not a bad thing to love your neighbours)”.

Pakistani fans chose Kohli between Babar and Kohli

Later, she picks Kohli when she is asked to choose between Pakistani skipper Babar Azam and the Indian cricketer. To this the crowd behind her boos and chants “Very bad”.

Commenting on this video, an X user wrote, “I don’t see anyone from Pak saying this for Rohit or anyone from India saying this for Babar. Kohli is huge. He’s been adored beyond rivalries.”

Saturday’s match was held at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka’s Kandy. Kohli managed to make four runs off seven balls before he got out on Shaheen Afridi’s ball.
