Australia vs New Zealand: Pat Cummins-led Australian team has taken an unassailable 1-0 lead in the 2-match series by defeating New Zealand by 172 runs in the first Test. The Kangaroos had set a target of 369 runs for the hosts to win, against this score the Kiwi team was limited to 196 runs.

Defeated New Zealand at home after 8 years :-

Australia has defeated New Zealand at home after 8 years, before this their last win on New Zealand soil was in 2016. The hero of Australia’s victory was Cameron Green who played an unbeaten inning of 174 runs on this difficult pitch. During this innings, he also made a record partnership of 116 runs with Josh Hazel Wood for the 10th wicket. Green was awarded the Player of the Match award for his innings.

Nathan Lyon bowled brilliantly :-

Nathan Lyon shone for Australia in bowling, taking 10 wickets in the entire match. In the first innings he got 4 successes while in the second innings he hunted 6 Kiwi batsmen.

In the last two decades, 20 matches have been played between New Zealand and Australia, in which this is the 17th victory of the Kangaroos. Australia has lost only one test during this period to the Kiwi team.

India got a big benefit from New Zealand’s defeat :-

Before the Wellington Test, New Zealand was at the first position in the WTC points table with 75 percent points, while India was at the second position with 64.58 percent points. Now, after this defeat, only 60 percent points are left in New Zealand’s account, in such a situation India has achieved the number-1 position. After this victory, Australia remains at third position with 59.09 percent marks.
