The first Test match of the Ashes series was full of excitement. Australia batted brilliantly on the last day of the Test to win the Edgbaston Test by 2 wickets, however, both Ben Stokes and Pat Cummins made a big mistake in the first Test, which cost the entire team.
Ashes 2023: ICC imposed heavy fine
The ICC has imposed a fine of 40 percent of the match fees on the teams of England and Australia. This penalty has been imposed on the team of Ben Stokes and Pat Cummins due to slow over rate. Both the captains could not bowl the entire over within the stipulated time, due to which the ICC has punished the entire team.
Not only this, but due to the slow over rate, two points from both the teams have also been deducted in the WTC table.
Chasing the target of 282 runs, the Australian team had lost its 8 wickets at a score of 227. The England bowlers were in complete control and the match looked to be tilting in favor of the hosts. In such a situation, Pat Cummins played an unbeaten inning of 44 runs for the team, facing 73 balls.
