England records, Ashes 2023: The fourth test match ENG vs AUS 4th test of the Ashes series 2023 is being played between England and Australia at Old Trafford in Manchester. Zak Crawley and Joe Root shared a partnership of 206 runs in 29.4 overs at a run rate of 6.94. Zak Crawley and Joe Root partnership is the fastest double century in Test cricket for any wicket based on run-rate.
The previous highest run rate was 6.91, scored by the pair of Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow in the Cape Town Test against South Africa in 2016. Both England batsmen created history by adding 399 runs in 47.4 overs for the sixth wicket.

More than 50 runs by the first 6 batsmen in the first innings :-
6 of the first seven England batsmen scored more than 50 runs in their first innings. This is only the third such instance for England in Test cricket, having happened twice before at The Oval in 1893 and Kingston in 1930.
England’s first innings in Manchester is only the seventh instance of six or more batsmen scoring fifty-plus scores in a single Test innings. In such a situation, Chris Woakes Chris Woakes is the first England batsman to be dismissed for zero in this Ashes series.
Jonny Bairstow became the 7th batsman to remain unbeaten on 99 :-
Jonny Bairstow has now joined the list of 7 batsmen who remained unbeaten on 99 in Test cricket. Bairstow is only the second batsman after Steve Waugh in the 1994-95 Perth Test to be 99 not out in the Ashes. Geoffrey Boycott also scored an unbeaten 99 at Perth in 1979–80, but the Ashes were not at stake in that series.

Biggest score on home ground after 1985 :-
England posted a mammoth score of 592 in the first innings at Old Trafford. This is the first time England have passed the 500-run mark in an Ashes Test at home since 595 for 5 in the 1985 Edgbaston Ashes Test. England have scored more than 500 on six occasions in the Ashes in Australia since 1985.

Zak Crawley brings up his century in 93 balls. This is the second fastest century by an opening batsman in the Ashes after Australia’s Joe Darling scored an 85-ball century at the SCG in 1898. Crawley’s century is also the fourth fastest by an English batsman in the Ashes.
