Ashwin said the big statement – It is too early to say anything on Dravid’s coaching

Ravichandran Ashwin has said that it is too early to comment on Rahul Dravid’s coaching style but India’s top spinner is likely to return to the dressing room under the legend.

The Beginning of his term :-

Dravid has replaced Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the Indian team. His tenure began with the T20I series between India and New Zealand.

Ashwin has returned to India’s fixed-overs squad after being out for four years. The off-spinner had not played a single stipulated overs level since mid-2017 and played a spectator role during the team’s recent Test tour of England.

The 35-year-old made a comeback during the T20 World Cup, including recently when he got the opportunity to play against Afghanistan. He is also part of the Indian team for the T20I series against New Zealand and took two wickets in the opening match on Wednesday.

The Commenting on Coaching Style :-

“It is too early for me to elaborate on Rahul Dravid’s coaching style but he has set standards from the under-19 level,” Ashwin told the official broadcaster after India’s five-wicket win on Wednesday.

“He won’t leave a lot of things to fate and he believes in preparation and strategy to bring happiness back to the Indian dressing room,” he added.

A new guidance group has been formed in the Indian team. While Dravid has replaced Shastri, Rohit Sharma is leading the team in place of Virat Kohli in T20Is. In the context of the first T20, Ashwin said that he felt that slowing down the pace of the ball is achieving a lot.

The Slower you throw the ball :-

He said, “The slower you bowl, the more support was coming from the pitch. It can help if you keep the ball in the air longer with the boundary as (Mitchell) Santner showed in the second innings.

India had a target of 165 runs and Ravichandran Ashwin feels that his team should not have taken the match till the last over.

“There were less runs than the competition score and we thought 170 to 180 would be the competition score. We thought we would write the win around the 15th over but it happens in T20 cricket.”
