Asia Cup 2022: Fans who were worried about Virat Kohli’s return to international cricket, got a good news on Monday, 8 August, when the 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2022, starting August 27 in the UAE, was announced.

Former captain Virat Kohli got a place in this team and he will play his 100th T20 International against Pakistan on 28 August. Meanwhile, former India opener Aakash Chopra has said that the team would not expect Virat Kohli to score big scores or hundreds.

Everyone’s eyes will be on Virat Kohli’s batting :-

With Virat Kohli back in action, everyone’s eyes will surely be on his batting as the 33-year-old Virat Kohli has been going through a rough patch for the last nearly three years. He will not be able to achieve the magical three-figure score since his 70th international century.

The last time he scored a century was against Bangladesh in Kolkata in November 2019. The situation seems to have worsened in 2022, as he is finding it difficult even to score a half-century in any format.

During the team announcement of Asia Cup 2022, Aakash Chopra said this on sports :-

Aakash Chopra on Star Sports during the team announcement of the Asia Cup 2022, believes that there will be a big opportunity for Kohli to bat freely in the coming matches. “I don’t know what is the mindset of the team or what Virat is feeling, but as a spectator, I have lowered my expectations.

The reason is that I don’t see anyone in this team who scores his century. Be it Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul, even if they are batting on 50, they should play fast.”

Aakash Chopra, “220 is possible, you would like to go there” :-

Chopra believes, “If 220 is possible, you would want to go there. Don’t settle for 210 or 190 or 180. If the team bats with that mindset then a person gets the freedom to play freely.

If that is the case, then I am not judging a player on the basis of points. It doesn’t matter if he scores 40 or 70, because everyone has a role. There is coordination in every player, no matter where he bats, you hit the ball.”

The former opener said, “It is going to be very easy for Kohli” :-

The former opener Aakash Chopra further added; “If that’s the mindset of the team, it’s going to be very easy for Kohli. It’s the perfect set-up. The kind of cricket India is playing at the moment, the team needs Kohli’s 70 or so. Not expected to score 100 or finish the game.

You just come and play yours, that’s enough.” Captain Rohit Sharma has already argued that he wants to play aggressive cricket and take the team to victory even when the score is 3 for 10. Have a wicket.v
