Asia cup 2022: The BCCI has announced the 15-member Indian cricket team for the Asia Cup 2022. Team India’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury. Former captain Virat Kohli has returned to the team. He last played against England.

KL Rahul managed to make it to the team for the first time since February :-

Star opener KL Rahul has also managed to make it to the team for the first time since February. He has been made the vice-captain of the team for the upcoming T20 tournament. Rahul could not participate in the previous series against West Indies due to the grip of Kovid-19. He has returned to the team after recovering from sports hernia surgery.

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel not available due to injury :-

The BCCI has also tweeted that fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were not available for selection in the upcoming tournament due to injury. Three players have been kept as back-up for this tournament.

These players are Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar and Axar Patel. In the Asia Cup 2022, India has to play its first match against Pakistan on 28 August at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Virat Kohli also returned to the team :-

Out-of-form batsman Virat Kohli has been selected in the Indian T20 squad for the Asia Cup. He is returning after a break of more than a month since the tour of England on 17 July. He was rested from the recently concluded ODI and T20I series against West Indies and will also rest during the upcoming ODI series in Zimbabwe.

Since the World Cup last year, Kohli has played only four T20 Internationals and has missed 19 matches. In those four matches, he has scored 81 runs at an average of 20 and a strike rate of 128.57.

Apart from this, the vice-captain KL Rahul has also returned in the team, who was out of the team for a long time due to sports hernia surgery. After recovering from this injury, he got corona, due to which he was not able to tour the West Indies.

Jasprit Bumrah’s exit from Asia Cup is a big blow for India :-

Jasprit Bumrah’s exit from the Asia Cup is a big blow for India. In the absence of Bumrah, the Indian bowling unit is going to look a bit weak. Mohammed Shami has also not found a place in the team. Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav have been rewarded for consistently performing well in the shortest format of the game.

Arshdeep and Ravi Bishnoi managed to make it to the team :-

Left-arm pacer Arshdeep and spinner Ravi Bishnoi have also managed to make it to the 15-man squad. Arshdeep and Ravi have been successful in impressing the selectors in white-ball cricket. Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson have also been dropped from the Asia Cup squad. Sanju had done well in the last few matches.

6 teams will participate in the Asia Cup starting from 27th August :-

6 teams including India will participate in this tournament starting from 27th August. India, Pakistan and the team that won the qualifying tournament are in Group A, while Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are in Group B. All matches will start at 6 pm local time (7.30 pm IST).

There will be ten matches in Dubai and three in Sharjah. The qualifying round to determine the sixth team in the competition will begin on 20 August in Oman. The teams competing for a place in Group A along with India and Pakistan are UAE, Kuwait, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Each team will play the other two teams in their group once each:

In the main competition, each team will play the other two teams in their group once each, and the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 4 round starting on 3 September. The teams from the Super 4 round will play each other once each, with the top two teams qualifying for the final to be held on September 11.

This edition of the Asia Cup was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka, but was shifted to the UAE last month due to the economic crisis. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will continue to be the official host of the tournament.

Defending champions India are the most successful team of the tournament. Team India has won the trophy seven times. The previous edition of the tournament held in the ODI format, but considering the upcoming T20 world, the upcoming edition will be in the T20 format. The Asia Cup matches are to be played in Dubai and Sharjah.
