Asia Cup Cricket 2022: Protesters burnt Sri Lankan PM’s house, Sri Lanka Cricket called emergency meeting

Asia Cup Cricket 2022: Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s residence was set on fire on Monday as protests against the government intensifing. And the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has called an emergency executive meeting today. After a new round of violence erupted in the country on Monday, SLC officials have begun to admit that hosting the Asia Cup 2022 and Sri Lanka’s tour of Australia is finding it difficult.

The Asia Cup decision will be taken after the IPL 2022 final

It is expect that the SLC will agree to the suggestions to shift the Asia Cup to Dubai. However, Asian Cricket Council President and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has already announced that a final decision on the conduct of the Asia Cup will be taken after the IPL 2022 final in Ahmedabad.

Committee to meet today in Colombo

The meeting of the SLC Executive Committee will be held in Colombo today. According to local media reports, they will discuss the formalities of hosting the tournament in Dubai. According to informed sources, discussion on Australia tour is also on the agenda. This tour starts on 7th June. But the latest cases of violence and instability in the country have thrown everything into doubt.

A source in Sri Lanka Cricket said-

“Cricket Australia has already given us a chance to move on. We are confident that the tour will go ahead. Obviously Monday’s violence has again raised some question marks but we are still confident that the tour will happen.”

The three ODI series against Pakistan has been cancele

Meanwhile, the SLC has canceled the three-match ODI series against Pakistan. The series was schedule for July during their tour of Sri Lanka. Now only two Tests will be played which are part of the ICC World Test Championship. The date of the tour has not been decide yet.
