AUS vs PAK, David Warner: Australia opener David Warner, who is playing his last Test match against Pakistan in Sydney, remembered his former teammate Phil Hughes on January 2.

Phil Hughes died at the age of 25 after being hit in the neck by a ball while batting at the SCG during a Sheffield Shield match. He played 26 Test matches, 25 ODIs and one T20 match for Australia.

Remembering Phil Hughes, Warner said :-

Let us tell you that Warner was present at the venue when Hughes was hit by the ball and this accident had a deep impact on his life.

Recalling that moment, Warner said, “For us, when he fell that day, it was quite sad and terrible to happen.” “Even today, it affects us badly. I’ve always seen him on the other end. He was good friends with everyone and no one could ever say a bad word about him.”

“He had every shot in the book. I really believe to this day – if he was still with us he would have been in the Test team instead of me or Usman Khawaja.

Virat Kohli was also present at Phil’s funeral :-

Let us tell you that there was a wave of mourning in Australia due to the death of Hughes in 2014. At the time, he was a contender for the top spot in Australian batting ahead of the four-match series against India. The opener’s funeral was also attended by then India captain Virat Kohli, head coach Duncan Fletcher and team director Ravi Shastri in his hometown Maxville.

A plaque has been installed in his memory by the SCG home dressing room. Warner touched the plaque while going out to bat.
