Women’s cricket will begin at next year’s Commonwealth Games with a rematch of the 2020 T20 World Cup final. Australia and India are set to clash again on July 29 as the nine-day tournament begins with the gold medal match at Edgbaston on August 7.

Seven of the eight teams in the competition confirmed in April earlier this year. The final will be determine through a qualifying tournament which will take place in January 2022. Their first match of the game will be against England on 30 July. The next day there will be a match that will bring the entire cricketing world to a standstill. India vs Pakistan.
The teams divided into two groups of four and the top two from each group will qualify for the semi-finals to be held on 6 August.
The six teams were selected on the basis of their places in the ICC T20 rankings till April 1 last year
England being the host was an automatic pick at the Games. The other six teams selected on the basis of their places in the ICC T20 rankings till April 1 last year. Barbados became the representative of West Indies on the grounds that they won the domestic title in 2020. The 2021 competition postponed.
“We have seen tremendous growth in the women’s sport over the years and the Commonwealth Games will undoubtedly be another great moment in that journey,” said ICC T20 acting chief executive Geoff Allardyce.

This is only the second time that cricket has found a place in the Commonwealth Games, and ICC T20 will mark the beginning of this edition of the event with netball.
