Moments earlier, with seven runs expected, Tremain survived a run-out appeal when he came back for a second for the third man.
Jimmy Pierson did his best to flick the ball back to the stumps, and replays showed Tremain was a few inching short but the TV umpire was not part of the Sheffield Shield.
Tremain then leveled the score with a straight drive from Michael Neser, who matched Staketty with three wickets in the innings, including the removal of Baxter Holt with eight runs expected.
Neser and Mark Steketee were excellent throughout the match as they shared 14 wickets and regularly took part in New South Wales’ run chase.
The aim of 137 was immediately setting higher by Queensland losing 7 for 28 in their second innings when Steketee got one through Ryan Hackney in the second over and a fine delivery from Neser by Daniel Hughes in the third.
Jason Sangha was bowling lbw to Jack Wildermuth and fell to the same bowler at slip. After Jack Edwards was catching at a no-ball by Staketty when he hitting square leg to leave New South Wales for 4 for 49 But caught.
Lachlan Hearn and Hayden Kerr briefly settling things. But Michael Neser was caught lbw. And Hearn’s hard work was undoing. As the left-hander took a catch at mid-on, where Marnus Labuschagne struck. Made a good ground.
When Trent Copeland was also lbw – a more boundary decision – New South Wales expected 17 with three wickets in hand for tea. Playing his third first-class match, Holt faced 75 balls for his 20.
The objective was achieving in just one point only to re-intensify the tension for his departure.
