Australia’s Rachael Haynes says she is ready and ready to take on her leadership responsibilities with the national team in the absence of regular captain Meg Lanning.
Haines, a veteran of 167 internationals over 13 years, captained her country in 14 matches across all three formats, most notably leading the Aussies to Ashes victories in 2017, while Lanning was sidelined after shoulder surgery.

The Sydney Thunder captain, who re-signed with his WBBL club on Wednesday, looms over Lanning’s shoes as a standout option to relegate.
Given his track record as well as his ongoing status as one of the team’s leading leadership figures.
“I’ve stepped into that role before when Meg got injured and I’m the current vice-captain, so whoever is the head coach and whoever the national selector is (up to them) is the best person to do it, The 35-year-old said.
“I’m certainly willing to do it myself, or if there’s someone else they think is better suited, they’ll have my full support as well.
“So it’s not my decision – it’s some people who have to mark it… I’m happy to pursue it, but it’s not in my hands.”
Australia’s next assignment is a five-match T20I tour of India in December before which Haynes is expected to appoint a full-time head coach.
The left-hander is currently in the UK where she represents Welsh Fire in the women’s hundred events, having also been part of the Australia team that won Commonwealth Games gold in Birmingham earlier this month.
“Our national team has a very important break… after coming back (in Australia) there is plenty of time for those (leaders) to interact,” he added.
“A new head coach will also be appointed, so I think there are a few things and I think those talks tick before they happen.”
With only limited chances in the middle-order during games, Haynes failed to reach 20, but the veteran batsman has been astounded by those returns.

“I’m hitting the ball really well, I’m just looking for a way to get out,” she said. “But what is this format of the game?
It’s very forgiving because you’ve got to put your foot on the accelerator at different times.
“We’ve got a chance here (so I’m) looking forward to spending. A little more time in the middle for Welsh Fire. And then hopefully I can move on into the Australian heat.”
