Head was one of nine centrally contracted players without a BBL deal along with the likes of David Warner, Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, Mitch Starc, and Josh Hazlewood and is the first player to put pen to paper for KFC BBL|12.

The 28-year-old has become a mainstay for Australia’s Test team at No. 5 in home conditions, despite tough tours to Pakistan and Sri Lanka earlier this year.

This means he could miss the start of the Big Bash season with Australia hosting it. Test series against West Indies and South Africa in December-January.

But because of the Proteas’ withdrawal from the three-match ODI series in mid-January, Head, who has played six of Australia’s last eight 50-over matches.

The Strikers’ final six are set to be available for the regular season after the Sydney Test. From 4-8 January.

Australia will be absent from the ODI series against New Zealand:-

Head will be absent from Australia’s ODI series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand in Townsville and Cairns later this month, due to giving birth to her first child, joined by her teammate Jess Davies.

Head was appointed the Strikers’ youngest captain in 2017 and led the club to the BBL during his first summer as captain. Memorably carried on to his inaugural Big Bash title in 2007.

Strikers head coach Jason Gillespie said Head has been a strong leader within South Australian cricket for a very long time, which in recent years has translated into international play.

“A distinguished cricketer and a man to lead by example, Travis brings a lot to our side and I know he will give his all to light up the Adelaide Oval this summer,” Gillespie said.

The Lost is a last-ball thriller for the Sixers at the SCG:-

The Strikers crashed out of the last hurdle in last season’s final, with Head scoring only three runs as they lost a last-ball thriller to the Sixers at the SCG.

The club holds pick number 5 in the BBL|12 overseas player draft on 28 August and has previously indicated that they will do “everything in their power” to retain superstar leg-spinner, Rashid Khan.

Rashid will play only part of the BBL season, however, he has also committed to playing in South Africa’s new T20 league.
