In the second match of the three-match series played against Ireland, South Africa’s team has become a victim of turmoil. Ireland performed a brilliant game in the second ODI, registering a thumping 43-run victory. With this, Ireland has managed to take a 1-0 lead in the ODI series.

Ireland was able to set up a challenging target thanks to a century from captain Andrew Balbirnie. Balbirnie scored 102 runs in 117 balls which included 10 fours. Harry Tector contributed 79 runs with the help of four sixes. Ireland posted a strong total of 290 for five after being invited to bat first.

In chasing, South Africa was bowled out for 247 in 48.3 overs despite opener Janneman Malan’s 84 runs and Rassie van der Dussen’s 49. Mark Adair, Joshua Little, and Andy McBrine took two wickets each for Ireland.

This is the first time that Ireland has defeated South Africa in ODI cricket. Ireland, ranked 12th in the ODI rankings, defeated the 5th ranked team, South Africa. It is certainly a moment of introspection for South Africa as much as it is a happy moment for Ireland.

With this win, Ireland have also opened their account with 10 points in the qualifier One Day Super League being played for the ODI World Cup 2023. South Africa would like to avoid the embarrassment of a series loss by winning at least the last match and leveling the series

The first match could not be completed due to rain. South Africa will now have to register a win in the third and final match on Friday to avoid defeat in the series.

A three-match T20 series is also to be played between South Africa and Ireland. The last match of the limited over series between the two teams will be played on July 25.
