Bangladesh will face PNG in the group game of the high-stakes final, Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea have entered to play in their final match of the first round of Group B with an entry into the Super 12.
Defeated by Scotland in their opening match, and intimidated by Oman at the start of their second, Bangladesh’s hopes of making the Super 12 round depend on a comprehensive performance against PNG at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground.
Bangladesh is third in the four-team table with two points from Oman in terms of run rate. If they lose, they are out of the tournament. Even if they win on Thursday, their net run rate will be tested considering that three teams could end up with four points each.
PNG are getting their share from Scotland, as well as the fight they themselves saw in the previous game against the same opponents. Two days ago, they came back from 35/5 chasing almost 166.
Players arriving at the World Cup are still not mathematically out of competition. However, their priority is to get their maiden World Cup win and a win against a strong T20 side in return for a riskier net run rate boost.
“It would be history to win at least one game in the World Cup.” “So that would be the first thing. Whatever happens after that is not within our control. We will try to do our best.
If we have a chance to qualify for the next post with a net run rate, we will definitely try to work towards that.”
Bangladesh has delivered well in the patch but is yet to put up a full-fledged batting performance. They made the change in the top final game, but the openers are yet to click together to maximize the powerplay. Shakib Al Hasan’s form in the middle order is certain, but he could have hit more at the death. Although they cannot change their XI, the batting order may change.
Probable Bangladesh XI names:- Mohammad Naeem, Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Nurul Hasan (wk), Afif Hossain, Mahmudullah (c), Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman
PNG has suffered more this year and their top order is showing a downward trend. In order to compete against Bangladesh, their batsmen will have to rediscover their touch and play more games with enlightenment.
Possible PNG XI Names:- Tony Ura, Lega Siaka, Asad Wala (Captain), Charles Amini, Seuss Bau, Simon Atai, Norman Vanua, Kiplin Doriga (WK), Chad Soper, Nosaina Pokana, Kabua Morea.
Charles Amini:- “It’s probably the biggest opportunity we’ve had so far. This will be our first Test as a team against one of the best T20 teams. Although they will be playing their first. The games were lost, they’re still a good team, Scotland wriggled in the first game, and we’re pretty sure we can do the same.”
Shakib Al Hasan:- “I have to give very excellent to the allies, the way they manage to play cricket in addition to adverse conditions. They played good cricket. As a Test-playing country, we have a lot of expectations. We try We do win but it’s not always predictable. When we beat big teams, they probably feel like that. That’s the cricket for you.“
