BCCI: Deepti Sharma, Rajeshwari Gayakwad set for Grade A in central contracts

BCCI: Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gaikwad are up for promotion in the central contract of women cricketers. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to keep both the players in Grade A for the 2021-22 season.

Harmanpreet Kaur,Smriti Mandhana, and Poonam Yadav also in Grade A

The 24-year-old all-rounder Deepti Sharma has shown good form and deserves a promotion. Similarly, Gaikwad (30) from Karnataka gets the top grade in the contract list, with Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Poonam Yadav also in Grade A, with an annual retainership of INR 50 lakhs. Grade B and Grade C players will be assured Rs 30 lakh and Rs 10 lakh annually.

The BCCI finalized 17 players

In Wednesday’s Apex Council meeting, the BCCI finalized 17 players for annual contracts, with Sneh Rana (28) making it to the list with Grade C, while Pooja Vastrakar, who was in Grade C last year, was selected. Got promotion in B category. , Vastrakar has been consistently good for India as an all-rounder and has notably played the role of a finisher since his return.

Experienced Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami have retained their places in Grade B, but Jemima Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey, who was ignored for the World Cup squad, have been downgraded from B to Grade C. Sneh Rana is a new entrant, earning on the basis of Grade C. Consistent performance since returning last June after five years. Mansi Joshi and Radha Yadav, who were part of last year’s 19-player contract list, are not there this time.

Important year for women’s cricket

It is an important year for women’s cricket with the 50-over World Cup starting in New Zealand from March 4. The BCCI is also contemplating starting a women’s IPL, which was discussed recently in the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council. If everything goes according to plan, then BCCI plans to start the women’s IPL next year.
