Before the T20 World Cup, Scotland suffered a major setback, Kyle Coetzer announced his retirement from the T20 format

Edinburgh: Former Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer has announced his retirement from T20 International cricket. Coetzer recently stepped down as captain after the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series match against the UAE. After this Richie Berrington was made the captain. Kyle Coetzer, the ICC men’s assistant cricketer of the decade, has now decided to retire from the format. He captained Scotland in the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup hosted by UAE and Oman.

Kyle Coetzer said in a statement, ‘After consultation with Cricket Scotland and the head coach, I have made the decision to retire. The team will get more advantage than any other player in the upcoming T20 event and T20 World Cup. It was an honor to be a part of the last World Cup and to lead my country. Happy to help Scotland qualify this time. I will be happy to play the team in any way that I need.

Kyle Coetzer further said that he should focus on spending more time with his family

Kyle Coetzer further said that he will focus on spending more time with his family, which will be possible by retiring from the T20 International format. He said, ‘Personally, my focus is on spending more time with my family. I have two daughters and I have to focus on my coaching career as well. I will have more time for this now. But most importantly, it is necessary to move forward in that direction, what is best for the team. Kyle Coetzer represented Scotland in 70 T20 Internationals, scoring 1495 runs with the help of 6 half-centuries. He captained the team in 41 of these matches, winning 20 of them.

Kyle Coetzer will now be available for the one-day match against New Zealand. Scotland will also host New Zealand for two T20 Internationals. Scotland have announced an 18-man squad for the series, which begins on July 27. All matches will be played in Edinburgh.
