BPL ball tampering case: Ravi Bopara was fined 75% of the match fee

Ravi Bopara has been fined 75% of the match fee and three demerit points in the BPL ball-tampering case.

Sylhet Sunrisers captain Ravi Bopara has been fined 75% of his match fee and three demerit points from his three-match ban for “changing the position of the ball“.

Initially banned by match referee Devvrat Paul-

The incident took place on February 7 during Sylhet’s game against Khulna Tigers. He was initially banned by match referee Devvrat Paul. But after Bopara’s appeal on 8 February, the BPL Technical Committee has changed the decision of the match referee.

Every four demerit points translate into the suspension of one match-

As per BPL rules, if Bopara gets one more demerit point during this tournament, he will get a one-match suspension. According to Article 7.5 of the Code of Conduct, every four demerit points translate into a suspension of a match.

Penalty imposed in accordance with the authority provided in Article 8.2.3.4 of the Code of Conduct-

The Technical Committee modify the suspension. And the penalty has been imposed in accordance with the authority provided in Article 8.2.3.4 of the Code of Conduct, which states that ‘the Technical Committee shall have the right to increase or decrease, amend or otherwise, in the first instance. Substitute a new decision on the appropriateness (or otherwise) of the imposed restriction’. A BCB statement on the matter read. “It is further confirmed in accordance with paragraph 8.2.3.6 that, ‘make by the Technical Committee under this paragraph 8.2’. Any decision shall be a complete, final, and complete settlement of the matter and shall be binding on all parties.

Changed the ball during the over-

During the ninth over of Khulna’s innings, Bopara was caught on camera hitting the ball. On-field umpires Mahfuzur Rahman and Prageeth Rambukwella duly stopped play. And changed the ball during the over. and conceded five runs to Sylhet. He had leveled the allegation against the match referee with respect to Bopara changing the position of the ball, which is a violation of clause 41.3 of the BPL’s Match Playing Conditions.
