BPL is like a circus …: : The 10th season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is being played these days. BPL 2024 started on January 19 and the final will be held on March 1. Meanwhile, Bangladesh cricket team head coach Chandika Hathurusingha has strongly criticized BPL. He said that sometimes he switches off the TV while watching BPL. He also appealed to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Chandika Hathurusingha told ESPNcricinfo :-

“We (Bangladesh) don’t have a proper T20 tournament,” 55-year-old Chandika Hathurusingha told ESPNcricinfo. This seems very strange. Sometimes I switch off the TV when I’m watching BPL.”

He further said, “I have a big problem with the current system. ICC needs to take action in this and there should be some rules in this matter. A player is playing one tournament and then he is playing another tournament. It’s like a circus. Players will talk about opportunities but that is not right. That way people will lose interest and I’ve lost interest.”

Bangladeshi players should be given an important role in BPL :-

The coach said that Bangladeshi players should be given an important role in BPL. “We need a tournament where our players can do things like bat in the top three…Bangladesh bowlers bowl in the death overs. Where will we learn these things from? We only have one tournament,” Hathurusingha said.

Hathurusingha suggested that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) should have a separate tournament just for local players before the BPL to get more T20 experience. He said, “I suggest that we have another tournament before the BPL. The franchises do what they want, then how do you expect the Bangladesh team to stay ahead of other teams?”
