BPL: Naeem Islam will replace Mehdi Hassan Miraj as Chattogram captain

Chattogram Challengers had a change in their leadership ahead of their fifth match in the ongoing BPL. After Naeem Islam replaced Mehidy Hasan Miraz as captain for the fixture against Sylhet Sunrisers.

Naeem Islam took over the captaincy from Mehdi Hasan Miraj in the ongoing match against Sylhet Sunrisers on Saturday.

Coach Paul Nixon has left for the UK

Meanwhile, according to franchise officials, Coach Paul Nixon has left for the UK on Saturday morning. Team manager Faheem Muntasir said Nixon had acted on an “emergency call” from his county side Leicestershire. From where he has been the head coach since 2017. But before leaving, Nixon advised that Mirage should be replaced as captain to free up an all-rounder.

Miraj is an important player

“We signed a full season contract with Nixon. Now he is back after receiving an emergency call from his county. He was given his overview of how the team should run before leaving. We made changes accordingly. They said that Miraj is an important player so it would be right to release him. So we have changed the captaincy,” Muntasir said.

Yasir Alam said-

The franchise’s chief operating officer Yasir Alam said Shaun Tait, who was currently serving as their bowling coach. He has been promoted to the post of head coach. “Shaun Tait is now the head coach as Nixon has moved to his county side Leicestershire. Nixon asked us to replace Mirage with Naeem, a veteran all-rounder who is the captain,” Alam said.

Miraj took eight wickets and 70 runs in his four matches as Chattogram captain this season. Chattogram won two of their first four matches under the Mirages, was in his second stint as captain in BPL. Earlier, he had led Rajshahi Kings in the 2018-19 BPL.
