Bravo will rejoin CSK ahead of IPL 2023 as a bowling coach

Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo will rejoin Chennai Super Kings ahead of IPL 2023, but this time as bowling coach. An IPL veteran, Bravo will replace L Balaji in the role, who has opted for a break due to personal reasons.

Bravo said about his new role –

“I am looking forward to this new journey as it is something I see myself doing once my playing days are over completely. I enjoy working with bowlers and this is one such role which I am excited about. From player to coach, I don’t think I will have to adjust much because when I am playing, I always work with the bowlers and try to come up with plans and with the batsmen. Thoughts on how to stay one step ahead. The only difference is I won’t be standing mid-on or mid-off anymore.”

The 39-year-old Bravo, the IPL’s leading wicket-taker (183), was signed by CSK in 2011 and retained till 2022, barring two seasons with Gujarat Lions during Super Kings’ suspension. Overall he has played 161 matches in the tournament, with 116 coming for CSK. He also had an early stint with Mumbai Indians.

With CSK, Bravo won the IPL thrice (2011, 2018 and 2021) and the Champions League in 2014. He is also the only two-time recipient of the Purple Cap, having claimed the award for most wickets in a season in 2013 and 2015. And shares the record for most wickets in a season (32) with Harshal Patel. He was released by the franchise ahead of the latest cycle with the West Indies not listing themselves for the mini-auction scheduled for 23 December.
