Sandeep Lamichhane: The Cricket Association of Nepal on Thursday (September 8) suspended star cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, accused of raping a minor girl. A Nepal court has issued an arrest warrant against the captain of the Nepal national cricket team. According to the police, a 17-year-old girl has accused him of rape.

The verdict came hours after the arrest warrant was issued against Sandeep Lamichhane :

Nepal’s Acting Secretary Prashant Bikram Malla said in an official press release that the decision was taken after an arrest warrant was issued against Lamichhane for raping a minor girl.

The decision came hours after the Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against Lamichhane as demanded by the police probing the rape allegation.

Police is collecting other evidence including CCTV footage regarding the incident :-

Police said, the 17-year-old girl alleged in the FIR lodged on Tuesday that 22-year-old Lamichhane raped her at a hotel three weeks ago. According to the registered case, Sandeep Lamichhane allegedly took the girl to various places in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur on August 21.

He raped her the same night in a hotel in Kathmandu. Police said that they are collecting other evidence, including CCTV footage, in connection with the incident. At the same time, Nepal Cricket Association said that Lamichhane has denied these allegations and pleaded innocent.

Sandeep Lamichhane, the first Nepali to play in IPL :-

Lamichhane is currently playing in the Caribbean Premier League. He is the first player from Nepal to play in IPL. He made headlines in 2018 by making his debut for the Delhi Capitals franchise. Lamichhane has recently been appointed as the captain of Nepal’s cricket team.

The 22-year-old Sandeep Lamichhane played in the IPL in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He has taken 13 wickets in 9 IPL matches. In T20I cricket, Lamichhane has taken 85 wickets in 44 matches for Nepal.
