Former Australian captain Ian Chappell feels Pakistan’s play ahead of the away series was too predictable. Pakistan will tour Australia to play three Test matches, starting on December 14 in Perth.
After an unsatisfactory 2023 World Cup campaign, Babar Azam stepped down from his captaincy in all three formats. Shaheen Afridi will take over the leadership responsibility in T-20 and Shan Masood has been appointed as the Test captain.
Masood is Pakistan’s ninth Test captain in the last 14 years and his aim will be to lead the team to its first Test series win in Australia.
Speaking on Wide World of Sports Outside the Rope, Chappell expressed his condolences to Azam.
“Yeah, it’s a pity, I think Babar is a very good player. He is not leaving the Pakistan team and maybe they will get a better captain. But that’s the specialty of Pakistan, they change captains (often),” Chappell said.
Babar Azam has an excellent record as Pakistan’s captain, registering 78 wins and 44 losses in 134 matches across all formats. The team also reached the top of the ODI rankings in the recent Asia Cup.
But after the disappointing performance in the World Cup, many veterans raised questions about Babar’s captaincy.
