Aaron Phangiso Suspended From Bowling in The Ongoing SA20 With Immediate Effect

South Africa and Johannesburg Super Kings left-arm spinner Aaron Phangiso has been suspended from bowling in the ongoing SA20 with immediate effect due to an illegal bowling action.

His action is not following the rules laid down by the ICC:-

The Independent Bowling Action Panel on Tuesday confirmed that his action was not following the rules laid down by the ICC.

The panel comprising match referee representative Jerry Pienaar, former South African fast bowler Vernon Philander and CSA high-performance management Vincent Barnes presented its final report on Monday.

On 17 January, Phangiso’s action was reporting during the Johannesburg Super Kings’ match against the Pretoria Capitals.

However, according to a media release issued on Tuesday, the Super Kings have requested to test Phangiso’s action under laboratory conditions at an ICC accredited centre.

If testing by the governing body shows that his action is legal, he will be allowing to bowl again.

In the first season of SA20, Phangiso has taken a total of 10 wickets in four matches, including four wickets in two matches.

He played the last match on Saturday against Sunrisers Eastern Cape where his performance of four wickets for 20 runs earned him the player of the match.

Sitting in fifth place in the six-team Competition:-

With three wins from six matches, the Super Kings are sitting fifth in the six-team competition. This is not the first time that Phangiso was reporting for a suspect bowling action.

He was first reporting during the Lions’ win against the Warriors in the semi-finals of the 2016 Momentum ODI Cup. But was ruling valid after corrective work on the action.

And on Wednesday, the right-arm bowler overtook Trent Boult and Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood.

The 38-year-old Phangiso has represented South Africa in 21 ODIs and 16 T20 Internationals. He played his last match for the national team in February 2018 against India in Cape Town.
