Amanjot Kaur became only the third Indian woman player to win the Player of the Match award on her T20I debut. The all-rounder has already fulfilled a dream by bringing change to the cricket field.
But their journey has only just begun, with India at 69 for 5 in the 12th over. Four of the top five batsmen fell short of single-digit scores.

On a slippery surface, in hot and humid conditions, runs were difficult to score. And all-rounder Amanjot Kaur, on debut, was joined by the experienced Deepti Sharma in the middle.
Amanjot takes up the challenges with love. After starting playing domestic cricket for Punjab in 2017–18, she moved to Chandigarh for some of the 2019–20 season in search of more playing time.
In each of her two seasons, she was among the run-scorers while captaining Chandigarh and also hitting sixes with the ball. She was assured of a place in the XI and was showing her goods.
“Moving to Chandigarh was a turning point as I gained knowledge and maturity as a batsman and gained fame,”
Amanjot said after becoming only the third Indian woman player to win the Player of the Match award on T20I debut.
“Then I again moved to Punjab and I wanted to take that step because I wanted to play more competitive cricket.
Wanted to play under seniors. Tania was there and from her I learned how it is to be at a high level and how competition is at the highest level.”
Amanjot began his 17-year-old training primarily as a bowler under coach Nagesh Gupta. His father enrolled him in the academy but felt that his passion for cricket would die out.
She was however determined to do something remarkable for India in cricket, and seeing her dedication, her father, who was a timber contractor and carpenter, made some changes of his own to help her.
He gave up his wood work and took up carpentry work at places near his home so that he could drop Amanjot for training and pick him up again.
“The journey was three-and-a-half to four hours between home and the academy and he played a big role in managing it when I started in 2016-17,” Amanjot said.

“Earlier he used to work long hours, and stay at the client’s place and was sometimes away from home. But in order to pick me up and drop me off at the academy, he left that.”
After making her first impression in India’s Blue, Amanjot knows her journey has just begun. But, as always, he’s up to the challenge.
