Asia CUP 2023: A top Asian Cricket Council official has confirmed that the meeting between ACC President Jay Shah and PCB’s Najam Sethi did not go down well (as per reports).

Anger flared up during the meeting between the two, the official said. The source further added that it is certain that the tournament is moving out of Pakistan. And will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Its formal announcement will be made in March.

Asia CUP 2023: Anger erupted in the meeting

In fact, the ACC official disclosed, “Anger flared up in the meeting. Najam Sethi was rude to Jai Shah. And said that the Pakistan team will not tour India for the World Cup. Jay politely said don’t mix ICC and ACC here.”

The tournament will be moved out of Pakistan

The ACC official further added that the final decision on the venue of Asia Cup 2023 will be taken in the Executive Board meeting next month. But in fact, the issue has already been settled and the tournament will be moved out of Pakistan.

While the ACC official confirmed, “The tournament will 100% be moved out of Pakistan. All members of ACC understand the position of BCCI and are with the Indian board.”

BCCI made its stand clear

The emergency meeting was called to decide the venue issue for the Asia Cup 2023. The event is to be hosted by Pakistan. But during the meeting, the BCCI made its stand clear that the Government of India would not allow him to go to Pakistan.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who is also the president of ACC, had earlier said that BCCI will not send its team to Pakistan.
BCCI has no problem playing in any other country where PCB can be a host country.
Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah are being looked at as possible venues for the Asia Cup if the PCB agrees to host the tournament.

ACC holds a constructive dialogue on the upcoming Asia Cup 2023

The official further said, “The ACC held a constructive discussion on the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The board agreed to continue discussions on operations, timelines, and any other specifics to ensure the success of the tournament. An update on the matter will be taken at the next ACC Executive Board meeting to be held in March 2023.

Also, sources say that Sethi told Shah that “if you will not play in Pakistan, we will not play in India”.
