The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Saturday (March 5) appointed Shane McDermott of Australia as the fielding coach of its national team. Cricbuzz had earlier reported that McDermott would replace Rajin Saleh, who was appointed as an interim fielder for the home series against Afghanistan.

The ICC T20 World Cup:-

The BCB decided to appoint Mizanur Rahman as their interim fielding coach for the home series against Pakistan after the ICC T20 World Cup decided not to renew the contract of fielding coach Ryan Cook.

Mizanur was replaced by Rajin for the home series against Afghanistan. Although fielding has been a major concern for the hosts for some time now.

Shane McDermott named as Bangladesh's fielding coach

Russell Domingo Acknowledged:-

Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo admitted that dropped catches. After the hosts dropped nine catches in the three ODIs and two T20Is against Afghanistan continue to hurt his side.

McDermott, 41, has previous experience working with the BCB, having served as National Academy Head Coach, National Team Fielding Coach. And High-Performance Fitness Coordinator between 2006 and 2008.

“His (McDermott) current contract will run until the end of November 2023. McDermott will join the squad that travels to South Africa in Dhaka this week.” The BCB said in a statement on Saturday.

McDermott has over two decades of coaching experience. He was the fielding coach of the Sri Lanka team and the head coach of Sri Lanka A team.

He has also served as an interim assistant coach and fielding coach with the senior team of Australia.

In his professional career, he has been involved in various coaching capacities with Western Australia, South Australia, Northern Territory, and Cricket Tasmania.
