While Australia inflicted a crushing seven-wicket defeat on Bangladesh, the trans-Tasmanian neighbors registered a ten-wicket win over Indonesia on Sunday.
However, he injured left-arm spinner Fran Jonas, dealing a blow to New Zealand’s campaign.
The immensely talented Jonas has already featured in 23 senior international matches in ODIs and T20Is but the 18-year-old will miss the tournament due to a calf strain.
New Zealand has named Kate Irwin in her place. Auckland’s Irwin Lincoln was the top performer in the national tournament that ended in December last year, being the joint-highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets.
Meanwhile, Australia have made two changes with Chloe Ainsworth and Jade Allen both suffering from fractured thumbs. Paris Hall and Ananya Sharma have been named as replacements.
A wicket-keeper batsman, she was named as a non-travelling reserve for the tournament and received her first Women’s National Cricket League contract with South Australia in May last year.
New South Wales’ Sharma, who was also named as a non-travelling reserve, was the leading wicket-taker in the U19 Women’s National Championship.
All three changes have been approved by the Event Technical Committee (ETC) of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023.
