Other four umpires in the A+ category:-

Apart from Nitin Menon, the other four umpires in the A+ category are Anil Choudhary, Madangopal Jayaraman, Virender Kumar Sharma, and KN Ananthapadmabhanan.

With this, there are twenty umpires including C Shamshuddin, 60 in Group B, 46 in Group C, and 11 in Group D who are in the age group of 60-65.

BCCI Umpires: In fact, the full list was presenting at the Apex Council meeting on Thursday following the work done by former international umpires Hariharan, Sudhir Asnani, and Amish Saheba and members of the BCCI Umpires Sub-Committee.

The Rs 40,000 per day for a first-class game:-

BCCI Umpires: Whereas umpires in A+ and A categories are paying Rs 40,000 per day for first-class games, those in B and C categories are paying Rs 30,000 per day.

Though the list was presenting as ‘up-gradation of umpires’, a BCCI official clarified to PTI that the board has created groups.

New A+ Category Introduced For Umpires By The BCCI

The A+ is a new category:-

The officer said, “It is not grading. There are groups in which A+ is a new category. A+ and A can be calling the cream of Indian umpires. B and C category umpires are also good.

“When it comes to delegating duties in domestic events starting with the Ranji Trophy on top, group-wise preference will be given. The grouping has been done after reviewing the performance of the 2021-2022 season.

However, the board has not added to its list of umpires since 2018. With the threat of COVID-19 mitigating, the BCCI has decided to hold the full domestic season after two years.

The 1832 Games organized in age groups in cricket:-

The board plans to organize 1832 games across age groups in men’s and women’s cricket, a widespread practice. At the same time, the standaring of Indian umpires is often criticized in the highly watched IPL.

BCCI Umpires: With this, only one Indian Menon is part of the ICC Elite Panel. When asked about more umpires graduating to the highest level, the BCCI official said, “We put a lot of emphasis on the elite panel.

The elite panel has only three umpires from England, two from Australia, and only one from the rest. You can only have so much in there. “The focus should be on improving the standards of umpiring at all levels,” the official said.
