ENG vs SA: Coach McCullum furious after England’s defeat

England’s formidable run in Test cricket under Brendon McCullum’s coaching came to a halt when South Africa beat them by an innings and 12 runs within three days at Lord’s. The defeat was also England’s first since McCullum was appointed as the head coach of the Red Ball. After the defeat, they were reduced to 1-0 in the three-match series.

McCullum’s big statement

McCullum praised South Africa’s efforts while conceding that England have work to do ahead of the second Test at Old Trafford, Manchester, which begins on 25 August. “I thought South Africa played well, they used the conditions that were presented to them and they deserved to win,” McCullum said after the match ended for Sky Sports.

He said,

McCullum also backed opener Jack Crawley, whose Test average has dropped from ten innings to 16.06 after scores of 9 and 13 at Lord’s. In which 46 is his top score in home Tests this year. Overall, Crowley averages 26.06 in 26 Tests, his highest score of 267 against Pakistan in Southampton in August 2020.
