But the former New Zealand captain noted that the playing style can be over-simplified and misunderstood at times.

Speaking to SYN Radio in Perth, McCullum said, “I don’t know what ‘Bazball’ is. If you look at the approach, it’s not just crash and burn, and that’s why I find it really silly. Don’t like the word that people are throwing out there.

“Because there’s actually a lot of thought about how people build their performance and when they put pressure on the bowlers and which bowler they put pressure on. There are times when they have absorbed the pressure beautifully as well. “

Radio host Adam Gilchrist, who was famous for his aggressive mentality with the bat, asked whether this hyper-attacking style of England had changed the landscape of Test cricket.

“I certainly wouldn’t say that,” McCullum said, sharing insights on what he and his team are trying to achieve with this approach.

He said, “We try and play a brand of cricket that gives the most satisfaction to the people and gives them the best opportunity. It is our responsibility to entertain as well.

“It has been a challenging period for those who love the game of Test cricket as society has changed and people no longer have five days to sit and watch cricket.

So we need to make sure that the products we have got and the products. We are taking to the people who are worthy of their time and able to captivate some of their imaginations.

“So that’s a fundamental reason why people want to play this style of cricket. And it really resonates with them as well.
