England Test Cricket Captain Ben Stokes Hit 17 Sixes in 64 Balls

As England Test cricket captain Ben Stokes hit 17 sixes in 64 balls, Ben Stokes prepared for the role of England captaincy with some brutal hits during Durham’s County Championship match against Worcestershire at New Road on Friday.

Stokes played a brilliant inning in 64 balls:-

Batting for the first time since being appointed captain of the England Test cricket team, Stokes played brilliant innings of 64 balls, which included a county record 17 sixes.

During his 161-run knock, the 30-year-old hit five consecutive sixes and a four in an over off Josh Baker.

This is the second time Stokes has hit five consecutive sixes in a County Championship game, a feat he also achieved against Hampshire in 2011.

Ben Stokes thus broke the earlier record of 16 sixes in a first-class county game, jointly held by Australian Andrew Symonds for Gloucestershire in 1995 and Graham Napier for Essex against Surrey in 2011.

His 64-ball century is the fastest in first-class cricket by a Durham player, eclipsing Paul Collingwood’s 75-ball mark, set at Taunton in 2005.

The 220 runs Partnership for the fifth wicket:-

Stokes finally fell after lunch as Durham posted 580 for 6. He shared a 220-run partnership with David Bedingham (135) for the fifth wicket.

He came to the crease early on the second morning when Scott Borthwick was trapped leg before by Ben Gibbon and, after a steady start, made a fine display of power hitting.
