The 32-year-old suffered an elbow injury during England’s series loss against West Indies in March and is currently being rehabilitated after surgery.

It was never expected that Wood’s recovery would be so swift that he would be in contention to face the defending World Test Champions in a three-Test series in June.

But the paceman may yet be unavailable for England’s series against South Africa at the end of the summer, with Wood revealing that is currently a best-case scenario.

“I’m halfway through the run-up,” Wood told reporters this week. “I’m hoping I can do my full run-up in the next few weeks and then play for Durham. But it’s going a little slow at the moment.

They Assured us:-

“Whenever I bowl at this point of time, there is still a little swelling. They’ve assured us that it’s normal, because I’ve had surgery five weeks ago, so it’s obviously still a little raw.

“If I can build through one-day cricket first, it will make it easier for us to return to Test matches later in the summer.

But, from the fast bowling roster, I think we are all trying to get fit as soon as possible, but it is going slowly.

Wood would still have hope:-

England and Wood will still hope to be fully fit early for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to be held in Australia in autumn.

But facing time is disappointing for a player who took on a huge workload during his five matches. Tests in England’s winter tours of Australia and the Caribbean.

“Perhaps two years after a lot of injuries, it felt great to play a lot of games. Very disappointing for a continuous period now, when I thought I was getting into the best part of playing for England.

The Stress fracture ruled out in recent weeks:-

Bowling consistently fasts and taking wickets. But if I come back, I believe in that two years that I can come back.”

Wood’s absence from injury makes him one of the few England bowlers currently unavailable, with Jofra Archer, Saqib Mahmood and Matthew Fischer all ruled out stress fractures in recent weeks.
