Former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist Reveals His Choice Between India’s Two Star Wicket-Keepers in India’s T20I opening XI.
Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik:-
India named their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad with both Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik among the 15 players to fly to Australia. However, in a star-studded batting line-up, there may be room for only one of them.
Pant, being the only left-hander in India’s top six batting options for the tournament, has a distinct advantage. But his tremendous record in T20Is, with Dinesh Karthik emerging as the finisher, can be counted against Pant.
Throwing his weight behind Pant said:-
Fox Cricket commentator Gilchrist, however, threw his weight behind Pant, saying he felt the southpaw “definitely” should be in the XI.
“The guts of Rishabh Pant and the courage for him, the way he bowls attack,” Gilchrist said.
“I think he should be in that Indian line-up. They can play together, but I think Rishabh Pant should definitely be there.”
Pant has scored 934 runs in 58 T20Is at an average of 23.94 and a strike rate of 126.21. The high-class wicket-keeper batsman has not had the success expected from him in this format.
Memorable Performance in Karthik Indian Premier League:-
Karthik, on the other hand, has become a very successful finisher with memorable performances in the Indian Premier League and has made a comeback in India’s T20I squad and made it to the T20 World Cup squad.
The Australia legend noted his liking for Karthik’s “versatility” and did not rule out placing them both in the same line-up.
“It will be interesting to see if they can both play on the same team. I think they can. What they bring to a team… Dinesh Karthik’s versatility plays as top-order as he can.
He has done a lot more later in his career, in the middle overs and the end overs. He has a really nice tactile game.”
