Former Nepal Captain Gyanendra Malla Announces Retirement From International Cricket

Former Nepal captain Gyanendra Malla announced his retirement from international cricket. Malla shared a heartfelt message to bid goodbye to his international career.

Announced his decision to retire from international cricket:-

Gyanendra Malla announced his decision to retire from international cricket after representing Nepal for 17 years.

First playing for the national team in 2006, the right-handed top-order batsman made his international debut against Hong Kong during the 2014 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Retired as Nepal’s third-highest run-scorer across all formats. In all the matches at international level, he played 37 ODIs and 45 T20Is.

The right time to announce my retirement from international cricket:-

“With a heavy but extremely grateful heart, I feel now is the right time to announce my retirement from international cricket,” Malla posted on social media.

“This sacred sport, which has been the essence of my existence – from playing locally to playing at the national level – has taught me invaluable lessons about life, determination, and the power of unity.

With every step on the field, I felt proud to represent my country, wearing the cherished colors that symbolize the nation’s hopes and dreams.

In both the white-ball formats, Malla scored 1759 runs in 82 matches at an average of 23.77. The 32-year-old is one of only four centurions for Nepal in T20Is.

Dipendra Singh is second after Airee:-

Malla scored an inning of 107 runs in 55 balls against Bhutan in 2019. He is still second only to Dipendra Singh Airey in terms of the highest individual score in the shortest time for Nepal.

Gyanendra also captained Nepal between 2019 and 2021, leading the team to 15 wins in 22 games.
