Former Sri Lankan Under-19 Captain Dhammika Niroshan was Murdered. Tragedy struck the cricket world on Tuesday night (July 16th) with the death of former Sri Lankan U-19 cricketer Dhammika Niroshana.

Niroshana Was With His Wife And Two Children

An unknown assailant shot him dead outside his house in Ambalangoda. Police reports say Niroshana was with his wife and two children when the attacker opened fire with a 12-bore shotgun.

The motive behind the killing is still unclear, and the police are searching for the suspect.

This Is A Huge Blow To The Cricketing Community

The 41-year-old Niroshana captained the Sri Lankan U-19 team in 2002, leading them in the ICC Under-19 World Cup held in New Zealand.

A right-handed fast bowler and batsman, Niroshana also made a name for himself in Sri Lankan domestic cricket.

He played for Chilaw Marians Cricket Club, Galle Cricket Club, and Singha Sports Club.

He had over 200 runs and 19 wickets in his 12 first-class matches. He also had 48 runs and 5 wickets in his 8 List-A matches.

Niroshana’s death has sent shockwaves through Sri Lankan cricket.
