Hasan Mahmud Steps Up as Taskin Ahmed Faces World Cup Race Against Time

Bangladesh’s pace attack has suffered a blow with the news that star fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against the USA due to a side injury.

However, this unexpected setback has opened the door for another exciting young pacer.

Hasan Mahmud, to potentially claim a spot not only on the US tour but also in the much-anticipated ICC T20 World Cup squad.

Hasan, a 24-year-old right-arm pacer with 17 T20Is under his belt, last donned the national colors in this format during a match against Afghanistan in July 2023.

This upcoming series against the USA presents a golden opportunity for him to showcase his skills and stake his claim for a place in the bigger picture.

The team management remains optimistic about Taskin’s chances. “We are still hopeful that we will have some positive news regarding Taskin.

If it was too serious, we would have been informed that there was no chance,” revealed a member of the selection panel to Cricbuzz.

A medical source echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of the upcoming reports:

I think before the World there are a couple of weeks left and during this time frame Taskin can recover.” However, the source also cautioned that a potential fracture could significantly complicate matters.

World Cup Squad Decisions: Who Makes the Cut?

Taskin’s injury not only throws his participation in the World Cup into question but also opens up possibilities for other bowlers.

It’s been reported that the team management is not impressed with Mohammad Saifuddin’s recent performances.

Particularly his lack of yorkers bowled during the Zimbabwe series.

This paves the way for pacers like Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Tanvir Islam to potentially earn their spots in the World Cup squad, assuming Taskin remains unavailable.

So, what do you think? Can Taskin recover in time for the World Cup? Who deserves a spot in the final squad
