Team India have suffered from pacer Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the tournament after suffering a fracture in the Adelaide Test on Saturday.

This comes after India were handed an 8-wicket defeat by Australia in the opening match of the series.

A Pat Cummins bouncer had hit Mohammed Shami on his bowling arm with the bowler getting out retired hurt to end India’s innings at 36.

India captain Virat Kohli was asked about Shami’s injury and he said that the pacer was in a lot of pain and has been taken to a hospital for scans.

“No news on Shami, he’s going for a scan now. He was in a lot of pain, couldn’t even lift his arm. We’ll probably know in the evening what happens,” Virat Kohli revealed after the visitors succumbed to an eight-wicket loss.

The team’s medical staff rushed in to his aid during the match and after some deliberation. Shami decided to walk back to the dressing room ending the visitors’ innings in 21.2 overs.

After the physiotherapist applied, what looked like, a painkilling spray. Shami tried to resume batting but he didn’t seem comfortable and decided against continuing.

With the injury, India will now heavily rely on the bowling prowess of Jasprit Bumrah. The role of Umesh Yadav will become pivotal, whereas Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini will also have to step up.

Ishant Sharma was ruled out of the series due to an injury he incurred during the IPL 2020. With Virat Kohli also returning to attend the birth of his first child, Team India will be under some serious pressure in the upcoming matches of the series.
