Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka and the first Test against Australia due to the same back injury. However, after 15 days of rehab at the NCA, he was recalled straight away for the 2nd Test in Delhi without a phased comeback. With the WTC final and the World Cup ahead, the BCCI will not take any chances with Iyer. So his fate in IPL 2023 also hangs in balance.

BCCI said about Iyer

In a medical update, the BCCI said, “Shreyas Iyer complained of pain in his lower back after the third day’s play. He has gone for scans and is being monitored by the BCCI medical team.”

A senior BCCI official said, “It is definitely disappointing. And this is not the first time that a player has had a recurrence of the injury. We should have learned from Bumrah but we didn’t. Shreyas should have been included in the team and should not have been in a hurry to play Test cricket. Hopefully, he will be fit for the ODI series. But at the moment it is difficult to say anything. Currently under the observation of the medical team.”
