This is the third time in the history of Test cricket that the Indian team has scored more than 400 runs after losing the first five wickets within 100 runs. For the first time in 1983, India lost five wickets for 92 runs against West Indies in Chennai. Despite this, India managed to score 451 runs.
After this, in 2013 also against the West Indies, half of India’s team returned to the pavilion for 83 runs and in the end India scored 453 runs. Now India have scored 416 runs after losing five wickets for 98 runs.
However, this is the first time that India have scored more than 400 on foreign soil after losing five wickets within 100 runs.
Batting first after losing the toss, India started with nothing special. The team’s first wicket fell on the score of 27. Gill dismissed after scoring 17 runs. After this Pujara also got out after scoring 13 runs. Hanuma Vihari got out on 20 and Virat Kohli scored 11 runs.
India’s five wickets fell for 98 runs. After this, Pant handled Team India with a partnership of 222 runs with Jadeja. He played an innings of 146 runs. At the same time, Jadeja scored 104 runs.
In the end, Jasprit Bumrah scored 31 runs in 16 balls to take India’s score to 416.
