IND vs ENG: England achieved a historic victory in the fifth match of the Test series against India. Chasing a massive target of 378 runs, England played a brilliant game and won the match by a margin of seven wickets.

Earlier in the series against New Zealand, England had won three consecutive matches. The way England played against India and New Zealand under Ben Stokes is writing a new definition of Test cricket. Stokes himself has said the same thing against India.

After the crushing defeat in the Ashes series against Australia, many changes in England cricket :-

After the crushing defeat in the Ashes series against Australia, many changes were made in England cricket. From the chairman of the cricket board to the coach captain of the team, everything changed.

The England team has played in a different way after Brendon McCullum became the coach. For this reason, this team has won four consecutive matches and after ODIs, a new style of playing Test has been kept in front of everyone.

After the 2015 World Cup, England had changed the style of playing ODIs :-

The England team had to face a crushing defeat in the 2015 World Cup. The team was knocked out after losing in the league stage itself. After this, Eoin Morgan was made the captain of the team and England’s ODI team changed completely.

The playing style of the old players changed. It used to be difficult for England to score more than 300, but now the same team has scored more than 400 score five times. The three biggest ODI scores are in the name of England and all these scores were made between 2016 and 2022.

Under Morgan’s captaincy, England had changed the way of playing ODI cricket :-

Generally in ODI cricket, all the teams used to score fast runs in the powerplay and batted with wickets in the middle overs. With wickets in hand in the end overs, runs were scored quickly and a good score was made.

The bowlers had a chance to defend it. Under Morgan’s captaincy, England changed this method and started batting aggressively from the very first over. Even in the middle overs, the England batsmen continued to bat aggressively and the scale of a good score changed.

Big score makes England dominate the opposition team :-

Now England’s team often scores more than 300 or close to 400, which is very difficult for the batsmen of the opposition team to chase. Most teams come under the pressure of such a big score and England have almost won the match after the first innings. Now this team is also changing the way of playing Tests.

IND vs ENG: England likes to chase the target in Test :-

With Brendon McCullum as coach and Ben Stokes as captain, England have played four Tests and have won all. The special thing is that now this team likes to chase the target.

Whereas in Test cricket, the lead of the first innings has always been considered decisive. The outcome of Ranji matches in India is also sometimes decided on the basis of first innings lead, but England has changed this basis.

Runs scored in the last four matches at the rate of four runs per over :-

In the last four matches, this team has scored consecutive runs at the rate of four runs per over. He easily chased when he gets a target of 250 or more in the fourth innings. For England batsmen, the speed with which they score runs, the pitch does not matter much.

Continuously playing big shots spoils the bowler’s rhythm and when he does not bowl at the right foot, he does not get any help from the pitch. For this reason, despite batting in the fourth innings of the match, England easily chased down the target of 378 runs. Earlier, against New Zealand also chased the target easily.

Will the way of playing Tests change?

The Indian team also scored very fast in the series against England. Especially Rishabh Pant had batted vigorously, but his style of playing remains the same. Rest of the India players were taking their time batting and scoring runs easily; but these things may change in the coming times.

However, the England team is currently playing at home. If this team bats in this style even when it comes to Asian pitches and is successful, then other teams can also adopt T20 style in Tests.
