IND vs ENG: Rishabh Pant has created history in the Test between India and England being played at Edgbaston. He scored a century in 89 balls and brought Team India out of difficult situations. At one point India had lost five wickets for 98 runs. After this, Pant shared a 222-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja.

Pant also made many records in his name by scoring a century in 89 balls. Pant scored 146 off 111 balls and was dismissed by Joe Root. At the end of the first day’s play, India scored 338 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Jadeja is currently at the crease after scoring 83 runs. Mohammed Shami is supporting him.
This was the fifth century of Pant’s Test career. At the same time, this was his third century against England. This is Pant’s second century against England in England. Pant’s last century in England was in 2018 at the Kennington Oval. Then he played an innings of 114 runs.
He has become the first wicket-keeper batsman for the opposition team to score two centuries in Tests in England. Rishabh Pant has played only eight of his 31 Tests in India. He has played the rest of the Test on foreign soil only. Out of his five Test centuries, Pant has scored four centuries on foreign soil.
Pant scored a century in 89 balls. This is the fastest century at Edgbaston. Cricket has been played at Edgbaston since 1902 and no batsman has scored a century in less than 100 balls before Pant. In such a situation, Pant became the first cricketer in the world to do this feat at Edgbaston in 120 years.
When Pant was on 80, he also completed his 2000 runs in Tests. He became the fourth wicket-keeper batsman from India to do so. Before him, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Syed Kirmani, Farooq Engineer have scored two thousand runs in Tests.
Dhoni scored 4876 runs in his Test career. However, at the age of 24, Pant became the youngest wicket-keeper batsman in the world to complete 2,000 runs in Tests.
As an Indian wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant also broke the 17-year-old record of former India wicket-keeper batsman and captain MS Dhoni in the case of fastest century in Tests. Dhoni scored a century in 93 balls against Pakistan in 2005. Pant broke this record by scoring a century in 89 balls.
Pant also became the third Indian batsman to score a century at Edgbaston. Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli had done this.
Pant is at number three among Indian batsmen to score the fastest century in Tests outside Asia. Virender Sehwag scored a century in 78 balls in the Gros Islet Test against West Indies in 2006. At the same time, Azharuddin scored a century in 88 balls against England at Lord’s in 1990. Then comes Pant’s number.
Pant has become the Indian wicket-keeper batsman to score the most centuries in Tests outside Asia. Pant has scored four centuries outside Asia. At the same time, Vijay Manjrekar, Ajay Ratra and Wriddhiman Saha had scored three centuries each.
He is the fourth wicket-keeper batsman from India to score two Test centuries in a calendar year. Before him Buddhi Kunderan did it in 1964, MS Dhoni in 2009 and Wriddhiman Saha in 2017. However, Pant is the first player from India to score two centuries in a calendar outside India.
In the army countries i.e. South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia, Pant has reached joint second among Indian wicket-keeper batsmen in terms of highest 50 plus scores. Dhoni did this 14 times. At the same time, Pant and Farooq Engineer have done this seven times each.
Shared a partnership of 222 runs for the sixth wicket with partner Vindra Jadeja. This is the joint-highest partnership for the sixth wicket in a Test overseas.
Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar and Mohammad Azharuddin had shared only 222 runs for the sixth wicket in Cape Town in 1997. At the same time, this is the highest partnership for the sixth wicket for India in England.
The 222-run partnership between Jadeja and Pant is the highest partnership for Team India in England for the fifth or below wicket. Earlier this record was in the name of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. The two shared a 204-run partnership for the sixth wicket at the Kennington Oval in 2018.
Pant scored a century off 89 balls, which is the second fastest century by an Indian in Tests in England. Mohammad Azharuddin holds the record for the fastest century in Tests in England. He scored a century in 87 balls at Lord’s in 1990.
During Pant’s innings of 146 runs off 111 balls, the strike rate was 131.53. This is India’s second fastest century in Tests in terms of strike rate. Azharuddin scored 109 off 77 balls against South Africa in the 1996 Kolkata Test. Then his strike rate was 141.55.
Batting at number five, Pant averaged 87.5 in Tests. Batting at this number, he has scored 525 runs in seven innings. This includes one century and four half-centuries. During this, Pant’s strike rate has been 98.68.
Pant’s strike rate against England spinner Jack Leach has been 161.53. Pant has so far scored 147 runs in 91 balls against Leach and has been dismissed only once.
Since 2002, only one batsman in world cricket has scored more than 100 runs in Tests against a bowler and has a better strike rate than Pant. Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has played 84 balls and scored 147 runs in Test against former India bowler Irfan Pathan. During this, Afridi’s strike rate was 175.
