Indiaโs stand-in captain Shikhar Dhawan on Wednesday said the ODI series against South Africa will be a good opportunity for the standby players of the T20 World Cup 2022 to prove themselves.

With Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of the World Cup due to injury, this will be a good opportunity for Deepak Chahar and Mohammad Siraj to impress the selectors.
Chahar is one of the standby players while Siraj will also have a chance to make it to the squad in case Mohammed Shami is not matched fit before October 15.

He will travel with the team to Australia:-
Mohammed Shami, Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi, and Deepak Chahar are included in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup as standbys and will travel to Australia with the team.
โIt is definitely very important because the more matches they (standby players) get to play, the more prepared they are,โ Dhawan said on the eve of the first ODI.
If these players perform well, their confidence will increase and that will help them. Do they know if they get a chance, so these players can look at this series as preparation?
The Indian team also includes new players like Rahul Tripathi, Rajat Patidar, Mukesh Kumar, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Dhawan feels that this will help the young players grow.
โIf you look at the performance of our young players, it shows their confidence. The more they get a chance to play, the more experience they will get and their confidence level will increase.

Shikhar Dhawan was the captain of Indiaโs ODI team on a tour of Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Zimbabwe and will take up the responsibility again in the series against South Africa starting on Thursday.
He said, โI am lucky to have had such a wonderful career. Whenever I get a chance, I share my knowledge with the youth. Now I have a new responsibility but I find opportunities in challenges and enjoy them.
He said, โMy target is the 2023 World Cup. I want to keep myself fit and stay positive.โ

Dhawan, who has consistently performed well in one-day cricket in the last two years, wants to stay fit and play in the ODI World Cup in India in 2023. Dhawan has scored 2315 runs in 34 Tests, 6647 in 158 ODIs and 1759 runs in 68 T20 matches.
